Attention Doctors: Beware of So Called "Loan Offers"

We have become aware that a number of companies are targeting professionals in the dental industry through mass solicitation (blast email/fax) misrepresenting a loan opportunity. Taking part in this so-called “opportunity” requires, in most instances, you to turnover your Visa and MasterCard patient receivables until they collect the amount they “loan you” plus approximately 50% in interest. You will know that is the game when requests are made for your credit card processing statements.

If you buy into this approach, you will lose control of Visa and MasterCard transactions until you have paid back approximately 150% of the amount borrowed.

We are informing you of this scheme to let you know there are other more economical and reasonable ways to borrow funds. While in the short term this solution seems helpful, it will have long term negative cash flow implications to your practice. If you find yourself in need of funds to sustain your practice, OSI has lender contacts that can work with you.

One of the best ways to improve your bottom line is to evaluate your practice performance. Your practice enhancement representative can recommend practice efficiencies and work with you and team at OSI to help you improve your situation both short and long term.

If you have any questions regarding an advertised “loan opportunity” please contact Gibson Pratt, legal department at 888-622-7645.

Walrus 4.5.7 Release

Walrus 4.5.7 will be released on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 for all Walrus Anywhere offices. Minnesota has passed a law requiring that certain health-related transactions from Minnesota providers, including dental claims, be submitted electronically. Two other transactions are also banned from paper form – provider remittance advice and eligibility inquiry. This law applies to all dentists licensed and practicing in Minnesota. This law will be effective July 15, 2009. This is not mandatory in all other states. However, we strongly suggest you take advantage of this new capability. Please refer to the following document for instructions on how to file pre-authorizations and initial claims electronically. The release notes can also be found on the MetaFrame Applications page.
